Way to connect Teacher Tutorials to QR Codes..

In SmartPhone, Social Media, Tablet, Technology, Training for Staff on November 21, 2014 at 8:04 am

Some of you have asked me about an idea or method on how to connect teacher’s tutorials to QR Codes. I was able to locate suggestion/instruction to help teacher to connect their teaching tutorials to QR Codes. Thanks to blogger Monica Burns who post tons of idea for teachers.

Scannable technology can be a powerful way for teachers to put content in the hands of their students.  I’ve talked about how easy it is to make QR codes talk with audio clips and how to make a picture pop up on your screen as soon as you scan a QR code.  Another option is to use QR codes to give students and parents easy access to tutorials.

This might be as simple creating a QR code that connects to a YouTube video explanation of how to solve a math problem.  You could also create your own tutorial for students using an app like ShowMe or a web based tool like PixiClip.  Just take the link to your screencast or the video tutorial you’ve found and connect it to a QR code.  When students scan the QR code they’ll go straight to a clip that helps them understand a topic.

Check out Monica Burns my iBook that provides tons of ideas for using QR codes in your classroom, library, or learning environment!

Lastly, I want to wish everyone a Happy and Blessing Thanksgiving Holiday!

Comet

After a suspense-packed, seven-hour descent, the European Space Agency’s Philae lander made an unprecedented touchdown on the surface of a comet Wednesday — marking the high point of a $1.3 billion, 10-year mission.

Cheers erupted as the confirming signals were received at the European Space Operations Center in Darmstadt, Germany, at 11:03 a.m. ET. The signals took 28 minutes to travel at the speed of light over the 317 million miles (510 million kilometers) between Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko and Earth.

“It is sitting on the surface,” reported Stefan Ulamec, Philae lander manager at the DLR German Aerospace Center. “Philae is talking to us — we are on the comet!”

Here’s how to track Philae’s progress:

Office for Android tablets preview kicks off…

In Free apps, SmartPhone, Tablet, Technology on November 7, 2014 at 7:53 am

Great news for Android users:

Android tablets are no longer being left out of Microsoft’s Office party, with a preview version due to launch soon.

As with Office’s iPad version, which no longer requires an Office 365 subscription for document editing, the Android tablet version will be free for basic file creation and editing. (Previous versions of the Office Mobile apps limited free users to file viewing only.) Users can apply for the preview by filling out an online form, and general availability for all users will begin in early 2015.

Microsoft says the preview will work on 7-inch to 10.1-inch displays, and on Android devices running Android 4.4 KitKat. That means devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop (such as the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9) aren’t eligible. “You will need to avoid any system updates to the OS on your device to continue to participate,” Microsoft says.

Enjoy and Happy Friday!
